So happy to have my friend and fellow author M. A. Church visiting today to answer a few questions and tell us about her new book, Perfect. If the cover art is anything to go by, it certainly is! Yummy.
Who or what inspired “Perfect”?
Perfect actually came around by way of Priceless. That’s book #1 in the series. Priceless was written for a contest. Through the whole book, this one particular character kept hammering at me, wanting to take over.
*laugh* This story was supposed to be the first contemporary story I’d ever written, but a certain someone was giving me fits and trying to take over the story. And that someone was Cupid. Oh Lord, he about drove me nuts. I did manage to keep Cupid’s involvement to a minimum, but the trade-off was his own story, lol. That’s how Perfect came into being. Then Pure was born… because, you know, Cupid has this friend called Morpheus, and he needs a mate too.
I’m here to tell you Cupid, or Cam as he’s known in his human form, can be very… demanding. 😉
What’s your favourite line from the book?
Oh, that’s easy, lol. Cam transforms himself and he has this plan to draw Jeff’s attention while on the casino floor. He uses his magic and makes a slot machine hit jackpot and, in the process, he helps out the elderly couple that’s playing. Part of the plan is have one of the waitresses on the floor stumble and dump her tray of drinks on him… and Jeff, being the owner of the casino, will feel obligated to have his clothes cleaned since an employee of his is responsible.
What he didn’t plan on is how the elderly couple reacts. One of them passes out, and Cam ends up catching the old woman and helping her lie down. *grin* So when Jeff first sees Cam, he’s on his knees and his shirt is soaked. LOL, not the position of power Cam had in mind!
As they talk, Cam makes a comment that he’s doing a ‘wicked witch’ (I’m melting, I’m melting) and needs to change clothes. Here is the line: “You know, like the witch in The Wizard of Oz? ‘I’m melting! I’m melting!’ Well, the waitress doused me pretty good, and I’m wet down to my knees.”
LOL, I love it! Jeff thinks to himself that he’d love to have the sexy guy wet and on his knees. With those luscious lips of his wrapped—
*wink* Yeah, lol.
Who inspires you in real life?
I guess I’d have to say my mom, even though she’s no longer with me. When I first started writing, I told her what I was doing, and she even read some of Darkness Awaits. The one thing she said to me was if I was going to do this… then do this.
What she meant was learn all that I could about writing, the process of writing and publishing, buy the things I needed, like a good computer… and go after it. LOL. And I did. That’s stuck with me more than anything.
If you could be a character from literature, who would it be?
The first person who came to mind was Christopher Columbus. I mean, can you imagine??? To explore, to take risks, to see a new land, to… just go on a huge freaking adventure! The things he must have seen and felt… both good and bad.
*grin* It’s kinda like writing. 😉
What’s your favourite genre to read?
I’m pretty much to the point where all I read is M/M. But give me a good BDSM story, and I’m wrapped up in it for hours, lol. I love Scifi too. I’ll get so engrossed I won’t eat until my stomach is gnawing on my backbone, and the call of nature is so pressing I can’t ignore it any longer, lol. Seriously, I can get so lost in a story that hours pass before I look up.
Can you give us an idea of what you’re working on at the moment?
What I’m working on… or what deadline is looming on the horizon, lol?
I’m working on book #2 in the Moonlit series. That’s the one I’m co-authoring with Julie Lynn Hayes. The first book, called Be My Alien, is under contract with DSP with a release date in May/June. I’m also going to finish Entangled, an M/M merman story, even if it kills me! I’ve put it on hold way too many times. Then there’s book #2 in The Harvest series.
The deadline looming, lol, is Haunting the Night, the last book in the Bad Boys Club from Changeling Press. That’s due out in March.
Sequel to Priceless
The Gods: Book Two

Jaded billionaire Jeff Mayfield loves only what his money and power can buy, but the Fates have plans for him. First a player in Jeff’s casino hits a huge jackpot and things turn hectic. Then, in the middle of the chaos, Jeff lays eyes on the unbelievably sexy Cam Smith—Cupid in his human form.
Seized by lust, Jeff makes a move, only to find himself on the receiving end of a blistering wave of sexual intent. Cam disassembles Jeff’s self-image and puts it back together upside down. But Jeff isn’t the only one struggling with control. Cam’s alter ego is Jealousy, and if he loses his composure, the consequences will be deadly.
Jeff backed Cam into the door and brushed his lips across Cam’s. Heat flared between them as Jeff lost himself in the feel of Cam’s soft lips and scratchy five o’clock shadow. He enjoyed the kiss, but something was missing. He raised a hand and rested it on Cam’s neck. His strong, quick pulse thudded under the silky skin.
Cam slid his hands around Jeff’s waist and suddenly turned them around. Surprised, Jeff broke the kiss. He opened his mouth to say something but Cam leaned into him, backed him up against the door, and attacked his mouth. Desire roared out of nowhere, knocking Jeff off stride as Cam took over again.
Jeff’s head spun with pleasure as Cam ground against him. Shock waves of pleasure raced through his body. Shaking from the intensity, he moaned as Cam led him down a whole new path; he was actually concerned he’d come in his pants… from a kiss. Breathing harshly, they broke apart.
“I need to go inside.” Cam ran his thumb over Jeff’s wet bottom lip.
“I’m going inside; you’re going back to your friends.”
Confused, disappointed, and aroused to the point of pain, Jeff ran his hands through his hair.
“Are you…? Do you mean to tell…? Dammit, Cam.” Jeff rested his head against the door. “I’m dying here. You really aren’t going to invite me in?”
“‘Fraid not. I told you, I don’t fuck on the first date.”
“Jesus God help me,” Jeff mumbled, trying simultaneously not to get angry and calm his raging body. “Do you have any idea what you do to me?”
“I have lots of ideas of what to do to you, but not right now.”
A shiver ran up Jeff’s spine.
“Take my number, and call me when you’re ready to meet in the morning,” Cam said. “I’ll be waiting.”
“You sure I can’t change your mind?”
“Okay, fine.” Jeff struggled to keep the disappointment off his face. Cam really was serious. “Give it to me.”
Cam barely hid the grin that teased his lips. Oh, he intended to, and it was gonna blow Jeff away.
M.A. Church lives in the southern United States and spent many years in the elementary education sector. She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have two children. Her hobbies are gardening, walking, attending flea markets, watching professional football, racing, and spending time with her family on the lake.
But her most beloved hobby is reading. From an early age, she can remember hunting for books at the library. Later nonhuman and science fiction genres captured her attention and drew her into the worlds the authors had created. But always at the back of her mind was the thought that one day, when the kids were older and she had more time, she would write a book.
By sheer chance she stumbled across a gay male romance story on the web and was hooked. A new world opened up and she fell in love. Thus the journey started. When not writing or researching, she enjoys reading the latest erotic and mainstream romance novels.
